I am a 23yo professional event rider, based at a beautiful yard near Newent, Gloucestershire. I am from a completely non-horsey family and got into horses by chance, aged 9, by watching the film International Velvet on TV! I went through school aiming to set myself up with a career to help me fund the horses, but despite achieving very good grades throughout, I decided that I had to pursue my dream of working with horses full time and left to start my working pupil position. As I had no family help with the horses, I knew I had to get the most experience possible in order to succeed. I spent the years 2015-2018 working for multiple top level event riders, gaining in depth knowledge of the riding and management of competition horses, which has allowed me to set up my own business, and to produce my own horses up the levels. During this time I was also a dedicated British Eventing volunteer, and won their Young Volunteer of the Year award. I am committed to the sport of eventing, and to a life caring for/improving horses, with the hope that this leads to success at the highest level, and one day, on the British team.
My favourite part about working with horses is the development and progress, whether this is through coaching riders, or schooling horses. I really enjoy producing young horses up the levels, and working with them to create a partnership that can build to success. All of the horses I’ve evented so far have certainly had their quirks, but I’m very proud to have been able to work with them as individuals to let them perform at their best, especially managing to produce 2 horses from scratch, up to Intermediate/3* level, one of whom is on track for his first Advanced. All horses have upgraded this season, notching up several double clears and placings, as well as a great win at Pontispool.”
